Project Title Preventing malnutrition with nutrient supplements through the delivery channel of seasonal malaria chemoprevention in Burkina Faso
(Acronyme : MalNut)
Dr Paul SONDO
Dr Bérenger KABORE
The MalNut project aims to prevent malnutrition and malaria in children from 6 months to five years old in Africa by combining nutritional supplementation (Lipid-based nutrient supplements such as Plumpy’Doz® (MQ- Medium Quantity; 50g/day)) and Nutributter Plus® (SQ- Small-Quantity, 20g/day) to seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC). SMC intervention, one of the reliable malaria control interventions, recommended since 2012 by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The impact of the MalNut project is firstly foreseeable through its public health relevance. Indeed, the project will respond to a major public health concern by providing evidence of the efficacy of a new combined strategy which should necessarily complement the existing ones to achieve best impact in the control and elimination of two major cause childhood morbidity and mortality (Malnutrition and Malaria) in Africa.
The project is be led by the “Institut de Recherche en Sciences de la Santé” (IRSS) / Clinical Research Unit of Nanoro (CRUN), Burkina Faso. IRSS/CRUN is a regional division of IRSS, one of the four institutions of the “Centre National de la Research Scientifique et Technologique” (CNRST), the national entity in charge of scientific research in Burkina Faso.
The MalNut project is funded by EDESIA, Inc. USA.
